Hand-OffPlan a Multi-Stop Delivery Route in 5 Steps
Plan delivery routes by validating each order, grouping compatible stops, choosing the right driver and time window, optimizing stop order, sharing the assigned route, and updating status through completion. The route should remain connected to customer details, ETAs, communication, and proof of delivery.
Before You Route Anything
- Every order is packed and ready.
- Addresses, unit numbers, and phone numbers are complete.
- Delivery windows do not conflict.
- The assigned driver has enough time and capacity.
1. Group Compatible Orders
Put orders together when they share a delivery area and promise window. Keep distant zones and urgent orders separate.
2. Optimize the Stop Order
Generate the route, then check it. Make sure the first stop can be reached on time and the run fits the driver's shift.
3. Assign a Driver
Send the driver the route plus customer, order, ETA, navigation, and contact details. A map pin alone is not enough.
4. Update Customers
Send updates when an order is assigned, out for delivery, delayed, or completed. Use the current route to keep ETAs useful.
5. Record the Result
Close every stop as delivered, failed, skipped, or canceled. Save proof and the reason for any failed attempt.
Example: An Eight-Order Run
Six orders share a 2–4 PM window in one zone. Two are across town for 5–7 PM. Build one six-stop route now and keep the other two for the next run. Combining all eight may look efficient on a map but risks both promises.
